The world's first mass-produced RISC-V laptop is coming

On April 29th, 2024, at the annual launch event of "innovative chip-for thriving", ZDT proudly launched the SpacemiT Muse™ series of eco-products, including the Muse Book, Shelf, and Box, Shelf and Box. Founder and CEO of the company, Dr. Chi-Jian Chen, announced at the conference that these innovative products will be available for pre-sale soon, aiming to provide more efficient and convenient hardware and software support for the construction of the global RISC-V ecosystem.

As technology continues to advance, the application of the RISC-V architecture to high-performance computing devices has made significant progress. The release of MuseBook, the world's first mass-produced RISC-V laptop, marks an important step in the application of this open-source instruction set architecture in the laptop field.

The MuseBook, launched by ZDT, is equipped with the self-developed SpacemiTKey Stone K1, the world's first 8-core RISC-V processor, which focuses on AI capabilities, with a single-core performance of up to 130% of the ARM Cortex-A55 chip, while the power consumption is controlled to be between 60%-80% of the ARM Cortex-A55 chip. The MuseBook comes with a 14.1-inch 1920x1080 resolution IPS LCD panel covering 72% NTSC color gamut, runs Debian-based Bianbu OS, offers 16GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB-128GB of storage, and is priced at a starting price of $300, or roughly Rs. 2166, which is a bit more competitive on the more competitive in terms of price/performance ratio.

In order to support the ecological development of RISC-V, ITS plans to provide comprehensive software and hardware development documentation and design documentation support through the developer community. The community will provide all kinds of brushing tools, ISP tuning tools, production testing tools, AI deployment tools, and prepared pre-compiled images, including OpenSBI, U-Boot, Linux kernel, initial RAM filesystems and root filesystems, etc., with a view to bringing developers a more direct one-stack brushing experience.

The open, free and open sources nature of RISC-V brings unprecedented opportunities for the semiconductor industry. Especially in China, RISC-V is seen as a huge opportunity for the development of the domestic semiconductor industry. the RISC-V Foundation's membership is growing rapidly, and RISC-V is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 40% in the mainstream market, with significant growth in the annual shipments of its chips.

The introduction of RISC-V architecture laptops not only demonstrates the promise of RISC-V in high-performance computing, but also reflects the role of open-source technology in driving innovation and ecological building in the industry. As the RISC-V ecosystem continues to mature and expand, more RISC-V-based products are expected to enter the market in the future.

In addition to MuseBook, ROMA, the world's first RISC-V laptop launched by Alibaba, also attracted much attention. The launch of these products further confirms the application potential of RISC-V architecture in the notebook field and signals the arrival of the era of the application of RISC-V architecture in high-performance computing devices.
