Nexperia Investing 2000 Billion Dollar to Add Wide Bandgap Semiconductors

According to media reports, discrete designer and manufacturer Nexperia BV plans to invest $200 million in the development of wide-bandgap semiconductors, such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride, and is preparing to build production infrastructure at its plant in Germany to increase wafer capacity for silicon diodes and transistors.

Wide bandgap semiconductors, such as gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon carbide (SiC), have shown great application potential in power conversion, RF communications, and other fields due to their unique performance advantages. Wide bandgap semiconductors are able to operate at higher voltages, temperatures, and frequencies than traditional semiconductor materials, resulting in higher efficiency and reliability. With the rapid development of electric vehicles, smart grids and other industries, the market demand for wide bandgap semiconductors continues to grow.

As a leader in the semiconductor industry, Nexperia has always been committed to technological innovation and market expansion. The investment in Hamburg is an important step in accelerating Nexperia's wide bandgap semiconductor production footprint. By introducing new technologies and improving production efficiency, Nexperia will further increase its production capacity for wide bandgap semiconductors to meet the growing market demand.

As an important production site for Nexperia, the Hamburg plant has always been known for its state-of-the-art production technology and efficient production capacity. The investment will further enhance the technology and production capacity of the Hamburg plant and support Nexperia's competitiveness in the global semiconductor market.Nexperia invests $200 million in the development of wide-bandgap semiconductors

It is worth mentioning that the Wingtech Technology Group, to which Nexperia belongs, is also actively engaged in the semiconductor industry. Last year, Wingtech Technology pledged to invest 12 billion yuan to build a new 300mm (12-inch) power semiconductor fab in Lingang, Shanghai. The construction of this project will not only promote the development of China's semiconductor industry, but also provide strong support for Nexperia's competition in the global market.

"This investment strengthens our position as a leading supplier of energy-efficient semiconductors and enables us to use available electricity more responsibly," said Nexperia's Chairman. In the future, our Hamburg site will cover the  entire product range of WBG Semiconductors and will remain the largest fab for small-signal diodes and transistors. We will continue to adhere to our strategy of producing high-quality, cost-effective semiconductors for both standard and energy-intensive applications, while addressing one of the greatest challenges of our generation: meeting the growing demand for energy while reducing our environmental impact. ”

Looking ahead, with the continuous development of electric vehicles, smart grids and other industries, the market demand for wide bandgap semiconductors will continue to grow. Nexperia's investment in Hamburg will support its competition in wide bandgap semiconductors and drive the company's continued growth in the global semiconductor market. At the same time, we also look forward to seeing more semiconductor companies increase their investment in the field of wide bandgap semiconductors to jointly promote the innovation and development of the semiconductor industry.
