Editor's note: Gu Ge, formerly known as Gu Rongxiang, is currently the chairman and general manager of Xi'an CHINASTAR Measurement and Control Co., Ltd. He has continuously serialized the series of essays "Guge Talks: Insights on sensor chip " in his personal WeChat public account, recording his own understanding and feelings about the sensor and Internet of Things industry. China Exportsemi Web authorized to reprint his articles so that readers can look at the past, current situation and development of this industry from the perspective of a senior industry person. For the convenience of reading, the article has been modified when it was reprinted. If necessary, you can find the original text at the end of the article.
In this article, we will follow Gu Ge's footsteps and experience his global journey from Xi'an to Asia, Oceania, America and Europe. On May 22, the high temperature in Xi'an had not yet subsided, and Gu Ge had already embarked on the journey of promoting Chinese technology with the ambition of China's sensor Internet of Things.
On this journey, Gu Ge's mission is to promote the sensor technology of Xi'an CHINASTAR Measurement and Control Co., Ltd. to the world. His itinerary covers from China's ancient capital to an international metropolis, with a journey of more than five kilometers. During this journey, he will not only demonstrate the strength of China's sensor technology, but also learn advanced concepts from the international market and seek win-win results for technology and the market.
In the article, Gu Ge shared what he saw and felt during his trip, from in-depth exchanges with the IoT Alliance to coping with various challenges during the trip. His story is not only a record of a business trip, but also a microcosm of Chinese companies going to the international market.
Through Gu Ge's perspective, readers of China exportsemi have been able to get a glimpse of the current situation and future of China's sensor industry, as well as how Chinese companies can achieve their own growth and breakthroughs through technological innovation and market expansion in the context of globalization. This is a journey of dreams, challenges and growth, which is worth reading carefully by every reader who is interested in technological development and international exchanges. The following is the original text shared by Gu Ge:
Today, May 22, 2024, the weather in Xi'an was 38 degrees hot in the past few days, and there were several showers around, and the temperature dropped slightly, but it was still 34 or 35 degrees. In the ancient city of Chang'an in May, most people still feel irritable.
How hot is it? Sharpening comes first. Starting today, Gu Ge will start a four-week business trip on four continents around the world. Going through Xi'an and Xiamen in Asia, China; Melbourne and Sydney in Oceania, Australia; Hawaii, San Francisco, and New York in the Americas; Iceland in Europe, Munich, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt in Germany; and then returning to Guangzhou and Xi'an in the motherland. The journey exceeds 50,000 kilometers. The purpose is of course to sell the sensors of Xi'an CHINASTAR Measurement and Control Company abroad, promote Shaanxi's sensor Internet of Things to the world, and spread the major events of China's sensor Internet of Things to the world. As a sensor Internet of Things person, I will do my best to promote China's sensor Internet of Things to the world. Although my position is humble and my power is weak, I will not forget to rejuvenate my country.

This is a special promotion card specially made by Google. We cannot just homogenize the "involution" in the domestic market. We must promote the sensor Internet of Things technology and products that are competitive internationally, so that foreign counterparts can understand that China's sensor Internet of Things is not as bad as they think. At the same time, we must seriously study and research the advanced technology, advanced process and market concepts of foreign counterparts. We don't have the capital to be arrogant, but we can't be self-deprecating. In some sensor technologies, processes or markets, we also have the opportunity and possibility to compete. At present, most of the products exported by China's sensor industry to foreign countries are transmitters made of existing technologies, with average technical content, and they mainly rely on relatively low costs to compete for the market.

All roads lead to Rome, and a huge building is built brick by brick. Xi'an CHINASTAR Measurement and Control Company has been developing the overseas sensor transmitter market for nearly 20 years, in addition to general high-quality ordinary pressure sensor transmitters.
First, it will focus on developing MCS high-end pressure sensor cores with original technology and leading technology, so that China's original technology and products can go global. It must be sold overseas and earned from overseas. Unlike now, most of our Chinese companies buy foreign MEMS wafers or chips and come back to make a package, or make an oil filling process, which is also called advanced technology.
Second, it will be synchronized with the world's advanced level in the additional functions of pressure sensors, such as wireless sensors and smart sensors, and innovate in some aspects. Although there are some theoretical definitions of smart sensors, each company has different understandings and practices. As the saying goes, "There are 1,000 Hamlets in 1,000 people"! What is important is that our smart sensors can meet the requirements of customers and achieve customer satisfaction. Customers are willing to pay more for your products to fit their applications. This is the fundamental.
When I booked a flight from Xi'an to Melbourne, Australia last week, I only cared about the price of the ticket and the local time when I arrived in Melbourne. I didn't expect to take Xiamen Airlines to stop in Xiamen and then fly to Melbourne. I had to stop in Xiamen for seven hours, which is usually two or three hours. Since it takes so long, I have to work. So, Google contacted Lin Jingui, vice president of the Xiamen Internet of Things Alliance.
In the office of the Xiamen Internet of Things Alliance, I met Zhang Yangxiu, secretary-general of the Fujian Internet of Things Alliance. While drinking tea, we talked about cooperation opportunities in the Internet of Things Alliance. The advantages of Fujian and Xiamen Internet of Things companies, the overview of upstream and downstream companies in the Internet of Things industry chain; the profile of Shaanxi Internet of Things companies and the main characteristics of the Shaanxi Internet of Things Industry Alliance activities. More importantly, what specific points of complementary advantages and win-win typical applications can Fujian and Shaanxi provinces have in the future in the Internet of Things industry? Of course, we also chatted about the characteristics of Fujian tea and the advantages of Shaanxi apples.

This time I traveled abroad, I hoped that everything would go smoothly in my work and life, but a small problem occurred on the first leg. It is summer in Xi'an now, and I still feel hot wearing a T-shirt. But the first stop abroad, Melbourne, Australia, is early winter. I had prepared thick clothes, but when I checked in at Xi'an Airport, I checked the suitcase with thick clothes directly to Melbourne, and I couldn't take out the clothes in Xiamen. I was worried that I would catch a cold after landing in Melbourne because the temperature was too low, and it was difficult to buy thick clothes in Xiamen. Thanks to President Lin for lending me a thicker sports long-sleeved shirt in his office, I hope I can warm up after landing in Melbourne. It was raining heavily when I left the alliance office and went to the airport. President Lin called a taxi to take me to the airport. Thank you!
This trip abroad will go through Australia, the United States, and Germany. Although I brought two credit cards, the commercial payment in these three countries is not as developed as in China. I can travel in China with just one mobile phone. Therefore, you need to prepare cash from three countries, because many places require tipping, so you also need some receipts. It's a bit troublesome!
Figure 4: Foreign currency needed for going abroad
The household power supply in each country is different, so charging the mobile phone becomes a problem, so you also need to prepare a so-called universal universal charging station to adapt to the sockets in different countries to ensure that the mobile phone is always charged. It's a must!
When traveling abroad on business, I am more worried about food and sleep. As for Google, after eating Western food for a week, my "Chinese stomach" will scream, and I must find a Chinese restaurant to improve my appetite. Fortunately, I bought a pack of Shaanxi "Shizi Mo" this time, hoping to improve my appetite when needed.
We need to have spiritual food when you spend a long time on the plane. And must study Huawei's "Customer-centric" book carefully. Fly 50,000 kilometers and enjoy a good book.
