Advanced Energy Unveiled New Smart Monitoring and Digital Control Capabilities

According to media reports, Advanced Energy has launched a new hardware accessory for its ultra-efficient, high-power supplier. AE's PowerPro Dongle unlocks powerful real-time monitoring, control, and diagnostics capabilities for designers.

Compatible with Advanced Energy's Evergreen modular and NeoPower configurable AC-DC technology, the new PowerPro Dongle provides CANBUS and PMBus connectivity without changing the base model. With the advanced modbus gui, users can visually view and control the power supply, simplifying and speeding up configuration, programming, diagnostics, troubleshooting, firmware updates, and certification. Advanced Energy's PowerPro Dongle makes it easier to integrate data with connected devices, such as AI edge devices. Accessing data directly from the power system allows real-time monitoring of electricity usage information.

"Our goal is to provide designers with products and tools that make designing, prototyping, customizing, diagnostic, and certification as quick and easy as possible," said María Cortez, senior vice president of industrial power products at Advanced Energy. Our Evergreen and NeoPower products are already equipped with a MODBUS digital bus, but the new PowerPro Dongle can be installed anywhere in the system and can be easily customized to meet specific needs, it adds CANBus and PMBus functionality, while our MODBUS GUI provides intuitive at-a-glance access to key performance data.”

With an initial power of up to 4,000 W, Advanced Energy's NeoPower configurable power supplies provide optimized power conversion for industrial and medical applications in a small form factor with up to four times higher power density than traditional solutions. AE's modular Evergreen series features 10 kW building blocks to quickly assemble systems and scale high power density applications. Both platforms feature advanced digital communication buses that provide development integration tools, such as power reports and data loggers, to document performance during integration testing. Various configurable options can be programmed via a digital bus to tailor the product to a variety of applications.

The new PowerPro dongle adds CANBUS and PMBus connectivity to these industry-leading platforms. The dongle form factor allows for easy integration, enhancement, and customization to meet specific needs. Using the MODBUS GUI, engineers can visualize digital bus capabilities, access powerful monitoring, control, and diagnostic capabilities, and extract power data. Other features include the ability to configure voltage, current, and other parameters in real-time to accommodate loads in applications such as battery charging, semiconductor burn-in, laser drives, hydrogen production, and electroplating.

Expanded data acquisition "black box" storage facilitates failure analysis, and the ability to report power telemetry data accelerates product qualification testing. The GUI also enables easy firmware updates in the field, as well as quick power programming during the manufacturing process via user-defined application-based configuration files.
