ASRock launches 8GB video memory version of Radeon RX 6500XT

The traditional AMD Radeon RX 6500XT comes with 4GB of GDDR6 memory, which was sufficient for most games and applications in the past. However, with the continuous upgrading of game graphics and the increase in resolution, 4GB of video memory has gradually become a performance bottleneck. To solve this problem, manufacturers such as ASRock have increased the memory capacity to 8GB, and ASRock has launched the Radeon RX 6500 XT Phantom Gaming 8GM OC Custom Edition, which stands out from the competition in its class, with twice the memory of the original. This change not only improves the performance of the graphics card, but also makes it more comfortable when facing high-demand games and applications.

ASRock's Radeon RX6500 XT graphics card belongs to the Phantom Gaming series, which is a Navi 2 GPU based on the RDNA 24 architecture released by AMD in early 2022.This graphics card is manufactured using a 6nm process, equipped with 16 compute units, has 1024 stream processors, has an Infinity Cache of 16MB, has a wide 64-bit video memory, and has a video memory rate of 18Gbps. Compared to the standard RX 6500 XT graphics card, the biggest highlight of ASRock is that its capacity has been doubled, from 4GB to 8GB. This upgrade provides better performance and fewer memory overflow issues when working with higher resolution game footage.

The new Radeon RX 6500XT is also optimized for heat dissipation to cope with higher power consumption and heat generation. Taking PELADN's " Scale Armor ARMOUR" series as an example, the graphics card adopts a dual-fan design and gray-black outer armor, with beveled cuts at the corners of the edges, and a matte finish to highlight the texture. At the same time, it is also equipped with a large area of heat sink fins and two direct-touch heat pipes to ensure that the graphics card can maintain a stable operating temperature even under high loads.

The new Radeon RX 6500 XT also has an upgraded interface. Most versions come with two display outputs, including DisplayPort and HDMI, to meet the needs of gamers to connect different monitors and TVs. At the same time, the new graphics card also uses an 8-pin external power supply interface to ensure that the graphics card can still get a stable power supply under high power consumption.

The graphics card can be plugged into a  PCIe 4.0 x4 slot, and in addition to the expansion slot, an 8-pin PCIe power connector is required. The reference Radeon RX 6500 XT has a TDP of 107W. While ASRock hasn't announced the TDP for the Radeon RX 6500 XT Phantom Gaming 8GB OC, it should be slightly higher due to factory overclocking and memory upgrades. Still, a 400W power supply is enough to power a budget RDNA 2 graphics card.

The regular Radeon RX 6500 XT is reported to start at $139.99, while the faster Radeon RX 6600 sells for as little as $189.99. ASRock's Radeon RX 6500 XT Phantom Gaming 8GB OC retails for $169.99 on Newegg. Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3050 continues to be available for sale starting at $199.99.

The new version of Radeon RX 6500 XT with double the memory launched by ASRock and other manufacturers not only improves the performance and memory capacity of the graphics card, but also optimizes the frequency, power consumption, and thermal performance. This makes the new graphics card more comfortable in the face of high-demand games and applications, bringing gamers a smoother and more stable gaming experience. At the same time, the launch of new graphics cards has further enriched the product line of the graphics card market, providing consumers with more choices.
