GlobalFoundries Acquires Tagore Technologys GaN IP Portfolio

According to media reports, pure-play foundry GlobalFoundries announced the successful acquisition of Tagore Technology's proprietary, production-proven power GaN intellectual property portfolio.

Gallium nitride, as a semiconductor material with excellent properties, has attracted extensive attention in the field of power management in recent years. Its high power density, high efficiency, and fast switching make GaN the key to efficient and reliable power management. With the rapid development of technologies such as generative AI, data centers, electric vehicles, and the Internet of Things, the requirements for power management systems are increasing, and GaN technology is facing unprecedented development opportunities.

GlobalFoundries' acquisition of Tagore Technology's GaN IP portfolio is undoubtedly a recognition of Tagore Technology's deep accumulation and innovation capabilities in the field of GaN technology. As one of the pioneers of GaN technology, Tagore Technology's proprietary, production-proven portfolio of GaN IP provides GlobalFoundries with strong technical support and a competitive advantage in the market.

The acquisition by GlobalFoundries is an important addition to its long-term strategy to meet the growing demand for high-efficiency power management solutions. As the digital world continues to evolve, especially with the advent of technologies such as generative AI, GaN is gaining prominence as a key solution for sustainable and efficient power management.

It is reported that GlobalFoundries recently received a direct subsidy of $1.5 billion from the U.S. CHIPS and the Science Act, part of which will be used for the large-scale production of key technologies, including GaN. This funding will accelerate the commercialization of GaN solutions, reduce time to market, and increase market penetration.

Through this acquisition, GlobalFoundries not only acquired Tagore Technology's core intellectual property and know-how, but also recruited a team of experienced engineers. These engineers will work with the existing team at GlobalFoundries to drive further research and development of GaN technology and accelerate the commercialization of the technology.

As GaN technology continues to mature and expand its applications, GlobalFoundries will be able to leverage this technology to accelerate market expansion in key areas such as automotive, IoT, and AI data centers. There is a pressing need for efficient and reliable power management solutions in these areas, and with this acquisition, GlobalFoundries will be able to better meet these needs and provide customers with a more comprehensive and professional service."

At the same time, GlobalFoundries' leading position in GaN technology will further strengthen its market position in the semiconductor industry. The company will continue to increase R&D investment in gallium nitride technology, promote technological innovation and industrial upgrading, and set a new benchmark for the entire industry.
