Infineon Announces the Power Module

Infineon Technologies has recently expanded its iconic 7th generation TRENCHSTOP™ IGBT7 product family with the CIPOS™ Maxi Intelligent Power Module (IPM) family for low-power motor drives. The new IM12BxxxC1 series combines the state-of-the-art TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 1,200V technology with the high-speed EmCon 7 diode technology to deliver a leap forward in control accuracy and set a new benchmark in performance.

Its innovative micro-patterned trench design is the key to improving overall performance, significantly reducing operating losses, improving energy conversion efficiency, and contributing to a significant increase in power density. The series includes three new devices – IM12B10CC1, IM12B15CC1 and IM12B20EC1 – that are rated from 10A to 20A and can easily drive loads up to 4.0kW to meet a wide range of low-power drive needs.

The IM12BxxxC1 series is available in a compact DIP 36x23D package, which not only achieves a high degree of integration of multiple power and control components, greatly improving the overall reliability of the system, but also optimizing the PCB layout space and effectively reducing the system cost. It is worth mentioning that the package occupies the leading position of the smallest 1,200V IPM in its class due to its ultra-high power density and excellent performance.

Designed for a wide range of applications such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning system motors, pumps, fans, heat pumps and outdoor fans, the IM12BxxxC1 series ensures excellent thermal transfer efficiency and electrical isolation safety with its isolated dual in-line molded housing. At the same time, the series strictly adheres to the complex electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppression standards and overload protection specifications, providing a solid guarantee for the stable operation of the system.

In addition, each IPM module has a built-in UL-listed stand-alone thermistor and a rugged 6-channel SOI gate driver with integrated dead-time control to prevent damage that can occur due to transient processes. In terms of safety, the device is also equipped with comprehensive protection features, including an under-voltage lockout mechanism for all channels and an automatic shutdown function in overcurrent conditions, ensuring that the system can respond quickly in any abnormal situation and protect core components from damage.

In particular, the IM12BxxxC1 series provides users with a wealth of design freedom to meet the specific needs of different scenarios due to its flexible and multi-functional pin design. With direct access to the low-side emitter pins, users can easily monitor all phase currents for precise control, further improving the overall performance and responsiveness of the system.
