Kaynes SemiCon Partner with Lightspeed

Kaynes SemiCon is a subsidiary of Kaynes Technology, an EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) electronics manufacturer in India, with a strong market position and technological prowess. It focuses on semiconductor packaging and system-in-package (SiP) and is committed to providing high-quality packaging and testing services.

Kaynes SemiCon, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kaynes Technology, has reportedly signed a partnership with Lightspeed Photonics to become the first paid customer in India to outsource semiconductor assembly and test (OAST) services. Lightspeed Photonics is a Singapore-based fabless system development company that specializes in integrating optical interconnects with processors to create modular compute interconnect heterogeneous system-in-packages (SiPs) under the LightSiP brand. The technology is designed to enhance server scalability by reducing data latency, footprint, and power consumption, while significantly increasing data bandwidth and performance-per-watt.

OSAT is an important part of the semiconductor industry, involving the assembly, packaging, and testing of integrated circuits (ICs) and other semiconductor devices. Kaynes SemiCon provides technical support for advanced semiconductor packaging, demonstrating the company's strong capabilities in technology development and innovation. Advanced semiconductor packaging technologies are important for improving chip performance, reducing costs, and accelerating time-to-market. Kaynes SemiCon's technical support will help drive the development and upgrading of India's semiconductor industry.

Kaynes SemiCon's partnership with LightSpeed Photonics is significant and marks India's entry into a high-value area of semiconductor manufacturing – advanced packaging.

Kaynes SemiCon's foray into the global semiconductor industry has made its foray into the field as the global semiconductor industry increasingly focuses on advanced packaging technologies such as silicon photonics, making the company a key player in the global supply chain. Panicker also revealed that the company has identified and arranged the equipment required for the project, which is planned to be installed on a prototype production line in Mysore/Hyderabad and eventually at the soon-to-be-built plant. "We have approached the equipment supplier to prepare to consign the equipment to their factory. This will allow us to start rolling out the suite for Lightspeed Photonics in four to five months," he added.

The company expects the India government to approve its OSAT service soon so that it can proceed with the implementation plan. "Approval is likely to be completed in a week or so," he said, stressing that preparations are already underway to meet the stringent requirements for advanced semiconductor packaging.

According to reports, Kaynes SemiCon has earlier reached a cooperation agreement with Qunfeng, a subsidiary of Taiwan Photomask, to jointly promote training and cooperation in semiconductor packaging technology. This cross-border technical cooperation will help Kaynes SemiCon absorb and introduce advanced technology and management experience, and further enhance its technical strength and market competitiveness. In addition, Kaynes Technology plans to invest Rs 3,750 crore in the construction of semiconductor assembly and testing facilities and has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Karnataka government. This will provide Kaynes SemiCon with a better production facility and a broader market space, which will help it further expand its production capacity and increase its market share.

At present, India is also actively seeking opportunities to become a global semiconductor center, and the government has also strongly supported the development of the electronics industry and launched a $10 billion incentive program to attract semiconductor manufacturing investment. Kaynes SemiCon is a significant milestone in its journey by securing India's first paid OSAT customer and providing technical support for advanced semiconductor packaging. This event not only demonstrates Kaynes SemiCon's expertise and market competitiveness in the field of semiconductor packaging, but also lays a solid foundation for its future development. With the continuous development of India's semiconductor industry and the increasing prosperity of the global semiconductor market, Kaynes SemiCon is expected to achieve more brilliant achievements in the future.
