Micron Introduces the Worlds Fastest Data Center SSD

Micron's latest Micron 9550 series solid-state drives (SSDs) are high-performance storage solutions designed for data center and artificial intelligence (AI) applications. This series of SSDs is equipped with Micron's self-developed ASIC main controller and 232-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory, supports NVMe 2.0b standard and OCP 2.0 specification, and provides extremely high sequential read and write rates of 14GB/s and 10GB/s respectively, which is extremely outstanding in the current market.

The 9550 series consists of two versions: the 9550 PRO and the 9550 MAX. The 9550 PRO is a read-intensive version with 1DWPD (Writes Per Day) endurance, while the 9550 MAX is a mixed-use version with 3DWPD endurance. These two versions cover raw capacity points from 4TB to 32TB, offering 15mm U.2, 7.5mm E3. S and 15mm E1. S and other different physical forms to choose from.

When it comes to AI applications, the 9550 series SSDs demonstrate excellent performance. For example, in GNN (Graph Neural Network) training of BaM (Large Storage Accelerator), the 9550 series SSD is able to significantly reduce workload completion time and increase feature aggregation speed. In addition, when paired with NVIDIA Magnum IO GPUDirect Storage technology, the 9550 Series SSDs deliver up to 34% higher throughput.

The MICRON 9550 series SSDs are also impressive, with the 9550 PRO achieving random read and write rates of 3300K IOPS and 400K IOPS, which is about a third higher than the competition. This performance gain is critical for AI and machine learning workloads that need to process large amounts of data.

In addition to performance, the 9550 series SSDs also offer significant advantages in terms of energy efficiency. In AI workloads such as GNN training, the average power of the 9550 SSD is reduced by up to 43%, and the overall system energy consumption is reduced by up to 29%. This is due to its leading-edge energy-efficient design, which keeps energy consumption low even when operating at high performance.

The Micron 9550 series SSDs also support Open Compute Project (OCP) 2.0 and 2.5, enabling intelligent management capabilities and cloud-scale performance while ensuring data integrity, security, and unified management. These features are critical for enterprise data centers.

The 9550 SSD features a vertically integrated architecture with Micron's proprietary technology to provide flexible design options and advanced security features. The drive integrates NVMe 2.0 and OCP 2.0 support, as well as OCP 2.5 telemetry for advanced performance and health monitoring, all of which simplify deployment and management of large-scale data centers. Designed with end-to-end security in mind, the 9550 SSD features self-encrypting drive (SED) capabilities, compliance with security protocols and data models (SPDM 1.2), strong data encryption, and other key security features. FIPS 140-3 Level 2 and TAA compliant options are also available for customers who require higher security standards.

Micron 9550 series SSDs are expected to lead the way in the market by setting a new standard for data center and AI applications with their superior performance and energy efficiency.
