ROHM Developing CMOS Product

ROHM, one of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers, has recently developed the industry's smallest CMOS operational amplifier, model TLR377GYZ, which is ideal for smartphones and compact IoT (Internet of Things) devices.

First, product features

Ultra-small package:

TLR377GYZ uses the WLCSP (Wafer Level Chip Size Package) package technology, which uses ROHM's proprietary technology to reduce the pin pitch to 0.3mm. Compared to conventional products, the size has been reduced by about 69%; Compared to conventional compact products, the size has been reduced by about 46%.

High Accuracy:

The op amp achieves a low input offset voltage of up to 1mV by embedding an offset voltage correction circuit developed by ROHM's own circuit design technology while maintaining the same transistor size.

In addition to improving common flicker noise, the new product also achieves ultra-low noise by readjusting the resistor component at the component level, with an equivalent input noise voltage density of only 12nV/√Hz.

Low Power Consumption:

The built-in shutdown function required for mobile devices helps to reduce current consumption during standby and further improves the energy efficiency of the product.

Second, the technical background

As smartphones and IoT devices become more miniaturized, the size of the components installed on them needs to be reduced accordingly. At the same time, in order to improve the control capability of the application product, it is necessary to amplify the small signals from the sensor with high accuracy. ROHM has succeeded in developing operational amplifiers that meet both the needs of "miniaturization" and "high precision" by further improving its "circuit design technology", "process technology", and "packaging technology".

Third, Application scenarios

TLR377GYZ ideal for amplifying sensor detection signals such as temperature, pressure, and flow rate in applications such as smartphones and small IoT devices. These devices require extremely high dimensions and precision, and the introduction of TLR377GYZ meets this market demand.

The new product will be mass-produced at a monthly production capacity of 100,000 units from May 2024, and the sample price will be 220 yen per unit (excluding tax).

Sales Channel: In order to facilitate replacement evaluation and initial evaluation, ROHM also provides conversion boards with ICs installed that can support SSOP6 packages. Both the new products and the conversion board are available online and are available for purchase through the Ameya360 e-commerce platform. In addition, the new products will be gradually launched on other e-commerce platforms.

Technical support: The ROHM Real Model, a high-precision SPICE model for verification, is also available on the ROHM website, which can be reliably verified to prevent rework after actual trial production, and contribute to the development efficiency of applied products.

In the future, ROHM will continue to focus on improving the performance of op amps, pursuing smaller size, higher accuracy, and lower power consumption integrated with ROHM's own ultra-low quiescent current technology. We will continue to contribute to solving social problems through advanced application product control technology.

In summary, the TLR377GYZ CMOS operational amplifier developed by ROHM has a broad application prospect in the field of smartphones and compact IoT devices due to its ultra-small size, high-precision performance, and low power consumption.
